Blue Light Filtering Technology

Starely Optic Labs Blue Light Filtering Technology has been developed to help protect your eyes from the effects of staring at screens.

What is blue light?

Blue light is a spectrum of coloured light with a short wavelength, which means its of a higher energy concentration.

Blue light is part of our lives in its natural form, from the sun. This helps with keeping our body clock in check, keeping us awake when the sun is up!

If you're spending a lot of time outside, or long periods of time starting at screens then you are exposed to blue light. That's pretty much every one of us!

How could blue light be effecting me?

The problems could start popping up when we introduce higher concentrations of blue light and blue light from artificial sources like screens. Today's demands of work and life have us sometimes fixed to screens with a chunk of us spending over 8 hours a day staring at screens. Even once the sun is asleep, we are awake, using laptops, TV's, tablets and smart phones well into the dark hours of the night when we really should be resting our eyes.

Blue light could be tricking your body into staying awake, and this disrupts our sleep cycle, resulting in difficulty sleeping or lighter sleep.

Is blue light really harmful?

Potentially, just how much we don't know yet. It is the subject of ongoing research to see the extent of which high energy blue light will effect the body. Studies have already shown that exposure to blue light at night can cause disruption to our circadian rhythms and make it harder to fall asleep. Because blue light is high energy, the eyes have to work harder to deal with it, so it's also thought prolonged exposure can lead to eye strain and fatigue, dry eyes, blurred vision, increased risk of macular degeneration and headaches.

UV light is absorbed in the front of the eye as it is a lower frequency. Blue light however being of high energy rays, make it through to the retina which we think deserves more protection.

How can I reduce blue light exposure?

There's a few things you can do that might help. It's recommended to take regular breaks from your screen, to relax your eyes and focus them on something else for a while. You could also use a night mode, app or screen filter to limit the blue light omitted from your device when you're using it for long periods or in the evening.

Our Blue Light Filtering Technology provides a filter that blocks harmful UV-A, UV-B and blue light rays, most of the high energy blue light from reaching the retina, but with the beauty of a clear lens.

Starely Optic Labs / Blue Light Filtering Tech

How is Starely Optic Labs Blue Light Filtering Technology different?

Embedded Filtering Technology

We ebed our technology into the lenses, so our glasses filter out 50% of blue light and almost 90% of the highest range without distorting colour.

Anti-Glare & UV Protection

We apply premium Anti Reflective and UV protective coatings to each lens.

Virtually Clear Lens

Our coating is not blue or yellow like many others, the tint is so subtle that it is unnoticeable while you wear the glasses.

Optional Magnification

We give you the option to add a reading strength to your glasses to assist with heavy screen use. This reduces stress on the eye's ciliary muscle for greater comfort and less eye strain.

You can take advantage of our technology by shopping Screen glasses or adding our Blue Light Filter for just $20 when you select any glasses and add to cart.
